Thakurgaon-Dhaka main highway at old bus stand area of Thakurgaon looks like a truck parking area. Trucks are parked everywhere on the road wherever there is a little spot. People are suffering from extreme suffering and accidents along with traffic congestion.
To avoid traffic jams and reduce accidents, a truck terminal was constructed at a cost of Tk 3 million in 2017, about a kilometer away from the city. But in spite of that, the trucks are not kept there, as before, they are keeping the trucks all over the highway and on the side of the old bus stand area. Pedestrians and other vehicles have to suffer as a result of traffic congestion caused by parking trucks on the road. Even as a result of this many lives are lost due to accidents. In this way, if the cars are kept on the side of the road, the locals fear that a major accident will happen anytime. Therefore, the road users along with the locals demand that these trucks should be kept at a certain place.
Sadekul Islam Nake, a pedestrian said, "We have a lot of problems in our movement due to the parking of cars on and on the side of the road like this." If the cars are kept in a designated place then we can move a little safer.
Jinu Ahmed, a resident of Masterpara area of the city, said, "Due to the parking of cars on both sides of the road and on the road, there is a problem for all the people traveling on the road including other vehicles. Many accidents are also happening due to this. Just on August 16, a helper of the truck was killed after being hit by a truck from behind as a result of keeping the car on the road. In this way many people lost their lives due to accidents. So we want the cars to be kept at the designated place for keeping the cars.
On the other hand, a truck driver named Mohammad Ali complained, "There is no good food hotel and car repair facilities in the new truck terminal." So we try hard to come to the old bus stand area to repair the cars and eat here.
Another truck driver named Azizul said, "There are no facilities in the new truck terminal. And we get all the facilities at the old bus stand. So this is where we bring the car. If the new truck terminal provides good car repair facility and food hotel then we will keep the car there and not bring the car here.
General Secretary of Thakurgaon District Truck, Tanklory Covered Van and Pickup Workers Union about truck parking on the road even though there is a truck terminal. Sohail Rana said, "They will solve it quickly by discussing with the workshop, vehicle owners and drivers and arrangements will be made to keep all the trucks at the terminal." He also said that efforts are being made to improve the workshops in the new truck terminal.
The traffic police are working tirelessly to keep Thakurgaon free from traffic jams, said Traffic Inspector Md. Farooq Hossain. He said, earlier there was a lot of traffic jam due to trucks in the old bus stand area, now we have reduced it to some extent.
It is completely illegal to obstruct the road by parking cars indiscriminately on the road. Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Abu Taher said that strict action will be taken through the mobile court if someone keeps vehicles illegally on the road.
