The Gurudaspur Municipality in Natore conducted an eviction drive on Thursday to remove illegal structures and roadside shops from the busy Chachkoir Main Road area, a key commercial hub of the town.

The operation began around 12:00 pm and was led by Municipal Administrator and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fahmida Afroze.

Earlier, on 9 October, a similar drive was carried out in the same area, during which shop owners were warned. The municipality also made repeated public announcements requesting illegal occupiers to vacate the area voluntarily. However, as these warnings were ignored, the authorities launched a second phase of the eviction.

During the drive, all illegal structures and footpath shops from Rokeya Mor to Chachkoir Bazar were dismantled. In addition, the owner of Rokeya Clinic was fined Tk 20,000 for building illegally on government land in front of the clinic. Several gas cylinders left on the roadside in violation of safety rules were also seized.

The operation was carried out with the support of Gurudaspur Police, members of the Ansar force, municipal staff, and cleaning workers.

Local traders welcomed the move, expressing gratitude to UNO Fahmida Afroze and the municipal administration for taking action to free public walkways.

UNO Fahmida Afroze stated, “This eviction drive will continue in the public interest. Anyone found occupying government roads or land for business will face strict legal action.”
