‘Illegal power connections in hills need to be cut off in 15 days’

Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md Tofayel Islam said risks of landslides escalate in the hills during adverse weather. So, the illegal power connections need to be disconnected within the next 15 days. 

He came up with the assertion while speaking at the 28th meeting of Hill Management Committee at Chattogram Circuit House on Thursday. He also asked to submit the information in this regard to the Hill Management Committee after 15 days.

Besides, He instructed the representative of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Limited to inform about any illegal gas connection in the hills.

Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said that they have hung 26 signboards in Chattogram city informing that hills cannot be cut in any condition. They have recovered 10 acres of Khas land by evicting illegal grabbers. Last year, 51 operations were conducted in Chattogram city. 

According to Chattogram Metropolitan Police, there are 5,300 illegal power connections in the risky hills of Chattogram. People in these hills are living with these illegal power connections.

Representative of Chattogram WASA said that they did not provided any water connection in the hills. However, if any water connection is found, it will be disconnected.
