Illegal car parking has become a common scenario on Chattogram-Rangamati highway. Almost half of the space of the four-lane highway is occupied due to the illegal parking. From Jalilnagar Bus Station area of Raozan to Munshir Ghata area has become a common place for illegal parking.
The pedestrians suffer while moving as buses are normally parked in two rows on Rangamati highway in Jalilnagar area. On the other hand, the CNG-run auto-rickshaw drivers occupied one side of Rangamati road and set up a permanent CNG-run auto-rickshaw station. Illegal parking of CNG-run auto-rickshaws and buses on both sides of the highway has become a common scenario. Random car parking causes frequent accidents regularly in the area.
After visiting Jalilnagar Bus Station, Munshir Ghata and Gohira Choumuhoni areas, it was seen that there was traffic jam and many pedestrians were suffering due to illegal parking of buses, trucks and CNG-run auto-rickshaws. From the east side to west side of Jalilnagar Bus Station CNG-run auto-rickshaws, jeep and trucks are usually parked.
Locals on the road said earlier it was two-lane road. Now, the Rangamati Highway has become four-lane. Although the road has become four-lane, several vehicles, including buses and trucks are parked illegally on both sides of the highway. The pedestrians and passengers suffer due to that.
Sub-Inspector of Raozan Highway Thana, Sirajul Islam, said no vehicles, including buses, can be parked on the road at Jalilnagar Bus Station in Raozan. Motor Owners Association has its own space for parking of the buses. Still if vehicles are parked on the road, legal action will be taken against those vehicles.
