Illegal drugs worth Tk 6 lakh seized in Ctg

Chattogram district administration has seized unregistered drugs worth Tk 6 lakh by raiding the American Hospital area in Agrabad area of Chattogram city.  Along with that, a fine of 60 thousand taka has been collected.

From Monday morning to noon, the Central Skin and Social Health Center (American Hospital) received a complaint of irregularities and raided there by the Directorate of District Administration and Medicine Administration, Chittagong.

In the operation, unregistered medicines worth about 6 lakhs taka from different countries including China, India were seized from Ma Pharmacy, Ma Medicare and other Pharmacy in front of the hospital gate. Each pharmacy is fined 20 thousand and 60 thousand taka.

Meanwhile, the owners of the pharmacy complained that the doctors of the hospital were writing these unregistered medicines in the prescription.

 While talking to some patients, it is known that the doctors prescribe medicines which are not available anywhere except the 3-4 pharmacies located there.  Various unregistered drugs have been prescribed in government hospital slips, it can be seen in the patients' prescriptions.

 A pharmacy owner, said that the price of each foreign cream ranges from one to three thousand taka.  Doctors get commission from Tk 200 to Tk 500 per cream.  Besides, all the patients of this hospital are asked to get tested at called a Medilid lab.  Brokers stand in front of the hospital.  Executive Magi­strate Prateek Dutta of Mobile Court found himself in an embarrassing situation after receiving direct evidence of such irregularities against the doctors of the hospital.

 Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Mohiuddin said, no medicine can be sold or prescribed by the doctor without the approval of the drug administration.  They cannot be sold in any pharmacy.  The head of the American Hospital has been told.  Action will be taken against the concerned doctors if such actions are repeated in the future.
