Illegal clinics, diagnostic centres mushroom in Meherpur

Published : 02 Apr 2024 09:24 PM

Unauthorized clinics and pathology businesses flourish across Meherpur district and the 10 instructions given by the health minister are being ignored in the district.  Hasina Diagnostic Center in front of Al-Aqsa Nursing Home and Lab and Upazila Health Complex of Gangni at a distance of 200 meters from Civil Surgeon Office.  Their name is not included in the list of approval. Even though many labs, clinics and private hospitals are growing under the very nose of the Civil Surgeon's office, the authorities pretend not to see them. No one in the health department keeps track of the listed labs, clinics and hospitals.

Most private diagnostic centers, labs, hospitals and clinics are regulated by doctors and public representatives. This business of health sector is becoming crowded day by day in this district. 80% of the private health care centers in the district are running business without fulfilling the conditions with valid licenses. These health care centers do not have necessary doctors, nurses and furniture.  Nursing College is being constructed on the south side of Meherpur General Hospital. Private clinics are scattered in the east, west and north.

The northern part of the hospital was called Wabdapara. Now known as 'Clinic Para'. About 20 clinics are doing business freely in this clinic neighborhood. The victims said that due to the violence of the pet brokers of these clinics, no patient has a chance to go to the government hospital. Again the clinics are owned by influential people and doctors.

They complain that the authorities concerned cannot take any action against them. One of the reasons why patients go to clinics despite knowing that they spend more money than government hospitals is that the staff of government hospitals is somehow involved with the clinics. Some servants and nurses of government hospitals are forcing patients to go to the clinic.

According to the District Civil Surgeon's office, there are no privately owned hospitals in the district. However, there is a sign board and the business is going on. There are 105 pathology labs and clinics in this district. Of these, there are 69 private diagnostic labs. Among them, 9 are unregistered, 44 are not updated, only 17 are approved. There are 36 clinics in the list, 10 of them have no registration, 20 are not updated, only 6 clinics are licensed.

There are two dozen more clinics, including small and large ones, outside the list. Again, the clinic started business with 10 bed applications, but many turned into hospitals without a license and the number of beds increased to more than 20. They do not have the manpower to increase the bed ratio. Although various meetings of the health department have discussed taking legal action against unauthorized hospital pathology institutes, no action has been taken so far.

Surgical scissors were removed from the stomach of a patient named Bachena Khatun after 20 years of operation at the Raja Clinic in Gangni before the Health Minister's directive. If the case is filed, the owner of the clinic Dr. Court denied bail to Parvias Hossain Raja and sent him to jail. He is currently on bail. Retired resident medical Officer of Meherpur general hospital.

A patient died on the operation table at Meherpur Darus Salam Clinic in the district town of Abdus Salam. If there is a case in this incident, Dr. is on bail from the court. hello Last January, another retired RMO of the hospital in Mallik Para, Dr. Vandalism occurred after the death of a patient at Ramesh Clinic. Again, if the clinic's own nurse Swarnali died during the appendicitis operation, a settlement of Tk 20 lakh was made. On March 18, when a patient died due to wrong treatment at Hasina Hospital in Gangni, a mobile court raided the hospital and sentenced the owner, Hafizur Rahman, to one year in prison and fined one lakh taka.

A 40-year-old patient named Chhoton said that he had not been able to eat anything for a few months and his body was becoming very thin. When he went to the doctor, they did various tests and found out that he had pancreatic cancer and that he needed to be operated on at a cost of 6 lakhs. He went to the neighboring country of India for a while and got treatment where the doctors said he had a tumor in his colon. After that operation, he is now fully recovered. There is no account of how many patients are constantly being denied due to wrong investigation.

On the condition of anonymity, a clinic owner said that some diagnostic centers take blood samples from helpless patients and throw them out the window and give fabricated reports. No clinic in Mujibnagar is operating without an anesthesia doctor. And because of the brokers, on the one hand, the service price is increasing; on the other hand, some organizations are indulging in these ills. In this, those who are running the organization honestly following the government rules and regulations are under threat.

Another clinic owner, on condition of anonymity, said, Most of the clinics in Meherpur do not require a certificate from the Atomic Commission to use X-ray machines, they do not require a narcotic license, most labs use expired reagents, and a license from the Department of Environment to keep the environment clean. It is necessary but most of the institutions do not have it, he added that ECGs are done by nurses and x-rays by non-technicians. 2 Doctors . 24 hours in each clinic. It is not supposed to be there, there is no staff, there is no good environment, but they are also running such important public health services. Where people are constantly fighting with death, a group of businessmen are taking advantage of their helplessness.

Meherpur clinic and diagnostic owner association president Dr. Abu Taher  Siddiqui said that we have told all the members of the association that no one should run these institutions by disobeying the government guidelines. If the institution is not run according to the government guidelines, then we have nothing to do with the decision taken by the government authorities.

Civil surgeon of Meherpur Dr. Mahi Uddin Ahmed said, every private hospital clinic, pathology, diagnostic lab inspection is ongoing.
