‘I want to decorate port city in a planned way’

Says newly elected CCC Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury

Newly elected mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, “I want to decorate the port city in a planned way. After consulting with everyone and reviewing it with experts, I will accept whatever is realistic.

There are many problems in different areas. Many poor people live in the wards. A rickshaw puller also has talent and intelligence. He may not have been able to pursue higher education because of financial problems. His intellect can also be useful a lot of the time.”

He said these when he was expressing his reaction in front of the media after former mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and other well-wishers came to greet him at his home in the port city on Thursday morning.

Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said that success would come for everyone. If you work in consultation with everyone, the chances of making a mistake are very low. And if a decision is made alone, it is likely to go wrong, he added.

He said, “I am thinking about the new generation. Our children go to school, eat and sleep at noon; teachers come in the afternoon. There is no place for sports. They sit with mobiles. So I thought. It is not possible to have a playground in every ward, where there are many government places; I will try to make it a playground, big or small, so that our children can go and play there. The teenage gang is talking. Today the youths are getting addicted to drugs. They are not really getting a good environment. If we can drive them towards cultural practice, we will be able to move most of our youth away from there. So I have an idea to build as many cultural complexes as possible in different areas of Chattogram.”

Rezaul Karim Chowdhury added, “What I am protesting against today and what I am protesting against in various ways is terrorism. I myself do not tolerate terrorism; I do not indulge in terrorism. Ordinary people want to live in peace even if they don't eat at one time. So I will take a hard line on terrorism and drugs. I will sit with law enforcement officers. I will tell them that the people of Chittagong want to be safe. Many influential people are helping these terrorists. My position on that is strict. No matter how influential you are, you have your elected mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury with you. I will deal with everything.”
