Planning Minister MA Mannan has claimed that news items published in the media that he suggested eating water hyacinth (kachuripana) is not correct. “I talked about further research on jackfruit and water hyacinth,” he said while briefing reporters after ECNEC meeting at NEC Bhaban on Tuesday.

“I ate water hyacinth (kachuripana) flowers in my childhood. My mother used to fry water hyacinth with pea flower (Beson),” he added. Planning Minister MA Mannan urged the media to write correctly while publishing any information. “Research will be unlimited. I said, ‘you can research on water hyacinth. Is there any harm if one can eat? Someone said at that time that cows and goats eat water hyacinth," he said.

He said, "Thai researchers have researched and removed the seed from the guava. We are eating. Isn't this technology possible in our country?"
