Dhaka District Police Superintendent on Tuesday claimed that the husband of slain actor Raima Islam Shimu had planned her murder.

His childhood friend was also involved in the gruesome killing of the actress.

Shimu’s husband Shakhawat Alim Nobel and his friend SM Wai Farhad have been remanded for three days each in this connection.

SP Maruf at a press conference in the capital Dhaka disclosed that key-accused Shakhawat Alim Nobel had been long involved in a feud with his wife over family disputes.

Actress Shimu, who went missing on Sunday, was found dead in a sack near Hazratpur bridge under Keraniganj in Dhaka on Monday evening. Police recovered the body and later sent it to Mitford Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Keraniganj police station inspector (investigation) Kazi Ramzanul Haq said that the body of a woman named Raima Islam Shimu was recovered from Keraniganj.

The victim’s brother Shahidul Islam Khokon identified the body at the Mitford Hospital and started a case against six people, including Nobel and his friend SMY Abdullah Farhad.

Later on Monday, police arrested Nobel and Farhad.

According to SP Maruf, Shimu lived with her husband and two children at the city’s Green Road. After collecting some key evidences from the scene, police went to the actor’s home, where more evidences were found, which linked the husband to the murder.

He further said, Shimu’s body was dumped in Keraniganj after the murder.

Though it was a premeditated murder, the perpetrators left behind some clues. Nobel and his childhood friend Farhad were brought in for questioning the same day.

Citing information gleaned during the interrogation, the Dhaka District police boss said that the couple had an ongoing feud over domestic matters for quite some time.

Shimu was murdered sometime between 7am and 8am on January 16 [Sunday]. The car, which was used to transport the body to Keraniganj, has been seized.

Shimu had gone missing after she left home Sunday morning, saying she was off to Mawa for a shoot.

Her husband Nobel filed a general diary reporting her missing later the same day with the Kalabagan police.

Shimu, who debuted in Dhallywood in 1998, had worked in some 25 movies, mostly as a supporting actor, with noted directors like Kazi Hayat, Delwar Jahan Jhantu, and Chashi Nazrul Islam.

An associate member of the Bangladesh Film Artistes Association, Raima also worked in TV dramas and produced as well.
