Human rights journalism training workshop held in Madaripur

A training workshop on human rights journalism was held in Madaripur on Saturday morning, with participation from journalists working in the district.

The workshop was organised by Bangladesh Manobadhikar Sangbadik Forum (BMSF) at the conference room of Madaripur Legal Aid Association.

Around 25 journalists took part in the training session, where different aspects of human rights journalism, ethical standards and responsible reporting were discussed.

The sessions were conducted by BMSF Secretary General Khairuzzaman Kamal, member of the managing committee of the National Press Club Shahnaz Poly, and Chief Reporter of The Bangladesh Post Ahamed Ullah.

Speakers emphasised the importance of accurate, ethical and sensitive reporting on human rights issues, highlighting the role of journalists in protecting and promoting fundamental rights.

The workshop also included detailed discussions on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

The speakers explained the key provisions of these international instruments, their practical application and their significance in journalism.

Participants expressed their interest in applying the knowledge gained in their professional work to ensure more responsible and rights-based reporting.
