A daylong training workshop on human rights journalism was held in Gopalganj to enhance the professional skills of journalists working in the district.
The training was organised by the Bangladesh Manobadhikar Sangbadik Forum (BMSF) with financial support from the Bangladesh NGO Foundation.
The workshop began on Thursday morning at the Gopalganj District Council Hall Room, where 25 journalists from different television channels participated.
The sessions were conducted by BMSF President Enamul Kabir Rupom, Secretary General Khairuzzaman Kamal, National Press Club Management Committee member Shahnaz Poly, and Bangladesh Post Chief Reporter Ahamed Ullah.
The training covered key issues including the fundamental concepts of human rights, citizens’ basic rights, protection of human dignity, and the role of journalists in building a discrimination-free society.
Participants also received guidance on eliminating discrimination against women, maintaining equality in journalism, and addressing legal complexities in news reporting, alongside discussions on several contemporary issues.
Certificates were distributed among the participants at the end of the workshop.
Gopalganj District Council Executive Officer Amit Dev Nath attended the certificate-giving ceremony as the chief guest, while Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Koushik Ahmed was present as special guest.
In their closing remarks, the guests said human rights journalism is crucial in protecting the rights of marginalised people and expressed hope that such training programmes would help journalists become more skilled and responsible in performing their professional duties.
