Human chain and protest rallies are going on across the country demanding withdrawal of false cases against senior journalists including four editors of East West Media Group.
A human chain and protest rally was held in front of the National Press Club at 11 am on Wednesday at the initiative of Bangladesh Mofassal Sangbadik Forum (BMSF) to withdraw the defamation case. Various media workers took part in the protest rally.
On August 18,a Tk 500-crore defamation case was filed against 11 people including Bangladesh Pratidin Editor and News24 TV CEO Naem Nizam, Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milan, The Daily Sun Editor Enamul Haque Chowdhury and Bangladesh Pratidin reporter Saidur Rahman Rimon.
JatiyaSangsad Whip Shamsul Haque filed the case against the journalists in a Chittagong court in the incident of publishing a news recently.
The speakers at the human chain said that it is very reprehensible and a matter of concern to accuse the well-known editors and journalists in the case due to personal conflict. Such cases pose a threat to independent journalism and the freedom of media and journalists.
The speakers present at the human chain demanded immediate withdrawal of the false conspiracy case filed against journalists in the Chattogram court by Whip Shamsul Haque Chowdhury.
Former President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ)Abu Jafar Surya was present as the chief guest.
BMSF general secretary Ahmed Abu Jafar, journalist leaders Layekuzzaman Layek, Sohail Sunny and joint secretary of the organization Anisul Limon were present during the event.
