Hundreds of youth under the banner Youth against Hunger had formed a human chain to protect the once mighty Chitra River and re excavate the same at no delay. The human chain was formed at Balidapara area of the Upazila on the bank of the river.
Youth against Hunger Kaliganj upazila unit president Fauzur Rahman Sabit, organization leader Ety Banaryee, Abdur Rahman Ali among others spoke.
The speakers said that Chitra was once a mighty river where launch, steamer, large size boat and other marine vehicles were running. The farmers had been cultivating crops on river beds and the water was rampantly used for bathing and other domestic purposes of the local people.
But the same river is now even not capable to accommodate a boat due to siltation. T hey had demanded to restore the navigation of the river at no delay.
