Affected families and local residents formed a human chain in Kamarkhand upazila on Friday, protesting what they alleged was a ‘false’ murder attempt case filed over a land boundary dispute.
The protest was held at Nandina Kamalia village of Bhadraghat Union. Among those present were Ward 8 BNP president Zahurul Sekh, former union parishad member Nurul Islam, local elder Haji Moniruzzaman and former district student party leader Naim Khan.
Jahangir Alam, a family member of the accused, alleged that Shahidul Islam and his son Raju obstructed them when they went to fence their land last Friday. Village elders then asked them to leave.
“Shahidul was healthy and walking home. We have a video. Later, we heard he had injured his own head and gone to hospital. On Sunday, we learned that a murder attempt case had been filed against six of us,” he said.
Naim Khan and Zahurul Sekh made similar allegations, claiming there was no visible injury on Shahidul at the scene and that the case was intended to harass them.
Acting Kamarkhand OC Md Hashmat Ali said the case had been recorded recently. “The investigation is ongoing, and necessary action will be taken after the investigation,” he said. #EK
