A massive human chain protest was organized by Jamaat-e-Islami and local residents against the false, fabricated, and one-sided news report broadcast on Deepto TV's Facebook page regarding allegations of 'land grabbing' against Hafez Abdur Rashid, the Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Birala Upazila unit and a prominent businessman.
This protest program was held from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Monday at Nara Bari Hat in the upazila. Organized under the banners of 'Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Birala Upazila Unit' and 'Residents of No. 4 Shahargram Union', the human chain was attended by thousands of people, including upazila Jamaat leaders and activists and residents of Shahargram Union.
Expressing their anger, the speakers at the human chain stated that two days ago, a 'live news' report was broadcast on Deepto TV's Facebook page against Hafez Abdur Rashid, the Upazila Ameer. They alleged that the report only broadcast the false, fabricated, and untrue statements of the plaintiff. Showing extreme bias, no statement from the defendant, Hafez Abdur Rashid, was broadcast, which is completely against journalistic ethics and defamatory.
The speakers emphatically said, "If the defendant's statement had been broadcast, the real truth would have come out before the people." From the human chain, they demanded the immediate publication of the correct information to refute the false allegations brought against Abdur Rashid. Otherwise, a warning was issued that strict legal action would be taken against the concerned media outlet and individuals.
On behalf of the villagers, speeches were given at the human chain by Abdur Rahman Biplob, Rakizul Islam, Belal Hossain, Mozammel Haque, and others.
On the other hand, on behalf of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, speeches were given by Jamaat leaders Sohel Rana Dulal, Adil Hossain, Rubel Islam, Hafez Nur Islam, and others.
