People from all walks of lives in Kathalia upazila arranged a human chain demanding establishment of ferry service on Bishkhali River. On Monday, people at Kachua Bazaar area formed a human chain and demanded ferry service to connect Khulna division with Barishal division.
Shouljalia UP chairman Mahmud Hossain Ripon and other spoke at during the human chain programme.
Speakers said that due to the absence of ferry service on Bishkhali River, people of Khulna-Vandaria-Kachua cannot directly travel to Betagi-Patuakhali route. For this reason, direct communication between Jashore, Satkhira, Khulna Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barguna and Patakhali is still not established. People have to travel more than 200 kilometers due to the lack of ferry service.
Speakers at the programme urged authorities to take necessary steps to start ferry service at Kachua-Betagi point to reduce the hassles of people in the area.
