Huge mango harvest likely in Chuadanga

A total of 28,101 tons of mango production is expected in 2465 hectares of land in 4 upazilas of Chuadanga district this year, according to District Agriculture Extension Department. 

Chuadanga District Mango Trader’s Association president Abdul Kuddus and general secretary Abul Kalam said that they expect the production of around 34,510 metric tons of mango and the price of the mangoes is estimated to be at tk. 160 crore. 

According to Chuadanga District Agriculture Extension Department, 8436 metric tons of mango are expected to be produced from 740 hectares of land in sadar upazila, 7410 metric tons from 650 hectares of land in Damurhuda upazila, 4161 metric tons from 365 hectares of land in Alamdanga upazila and 8094 metric tons from 710 hectares of land in Jibannagar upazila. 

It may be mentioned that the department earlier had fixed a target of 2,191 hectares of land for cultivation mango this year whereas, but farmers of the areas has cultivated mango on 2,465 hectares of land.  The target of mango cultivation has exceeded to 274 hectares of land. 

A decision of harvesting mango has been taken in the district that isaati-guti-bombai aam on May 14, himsagar on May 22, langra on May 25, aamrupali on June 5, fajli on June 21 and aswina on July 1. This schedule will be followed this year. 

Mohammad Aminul Islam Khan, DC, urged upon the concerned farmers and businessmen not to harvest un-matured mango and not to sell such type of mangoes in the markets. 

Bevash Chandra Saha, DD of Agriculture Extension Department said, bumper production of mango is being expected in the district. So this department will monitor and execute the schedule of mango harvesting at grass root level.
