Huge crowd noticed on weekend

Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2023 is drawing more enthusiastic crowd at Bangla Academy and SuhrawardyUdyan. The book fair draws more book lovers on weekends than other normal days and on Friday the mood was like a festival! 

Yesterday, the book fair have seen a huge crowd from the morning. And the morning of the holidays in this fair is an happy hour for the children. So from the 8.30 am in the morning children and teenagers started coming to the fair. 

An art competition was held at the main stage of the book fair. And children enjoyed participating in that event. An eight year old girl named Munjeren told this reporter, " I have come to the fair with my father. I am really enjoying this event and to visit this colorful book fair." 

Later on book fair organized a special event for the children titled, 'ShishuPahar' at 11 am. Children came to the fair in groups with their parents. Their main attractions of 

the fair was to see the puppet charectersIkriMikri, Halum and Shiku a concept drawn from the children's TV serial - '123 Sisimpur'. 

Children enjoyed this event with joy and enthusiasm. Parents flocked at the premises from early morning with their children to develop the habit of reading books from childhood. 

Most children's favorites books include comic characters, fairy tales, stories and rhyme. The event started at 11 am and lasted until 1 pm. 

A publisher said that children prefer stories and cartoon books. Children's books should be cheaper in price but they are not able to reduce the price due to the increase in publishing costs. They feel bad for this.

A salesperson of 'Jingeful' publishing house, said that it is good to see children visitng the fair in the morning. Their choices are quite interesting. The cost of publishing children's books is high so naturally the price is also a bit high. 

Seven-year-old Ariana came to the fair with her father Asad Zaman to dance with TukTuki and buy fairy tale books. He said, “I bought the fairy tale book after coming to the fair. Dad also bought two more poetry and story books. I feel very good.” 

The Sheikh Rasel children's square at the book fair has been placed on a large scale on the right side of the entrance gate of the Ramana Kali temple. A total of 111 units have been allotted to 71 institutions in this ShishuChattwar. 

New arrivals and 10th day events : A total of 260 new books arrived at the fair on Friday. Among them, stories 30, novels 46, essays 13, poems 79, research 4, rhymes 8, children's literature 18, biography 6, writings 2, liberation war 3, plays 3, science 1, travel 8, history 5, politics 1, medicine 1, Bangabandhu 1, Romance 2, Religion 3, Translation 2, Science Fiction 6 and 18 others. 

Artist Hashem Khan inaugurated the children’s painting competition. Then at 9:30 in the morning, the preliminary selection phase of the children's recitation competition was held at Abdul Karim Sahithabisharad Auditorium of Bangla Academy. 

More than two hundred contestants participated. The judges were KaziMadina, AnmumanAra and NurulHasnatZeelan. At 4 pm, a discussion program on the birth centenary of artists Safiuddin Ahmed and SM Sultan was held at the main stage of the book fair. 

Articles were presented by Mal Rana and Syed Nizar. Sushanth Kumar Adhikari, Imam Hussain Sumon, Nasir Ali Mamun and NeeruShamsunnahar participated in the discussion. MuntasirMamun presided over the event. 

According to the author, Safiuuddin Ahmed, the pioneer of printmaking in Bangladesh and the renowned printmaker of the subcontinent, is one of the founders of the 'Government School of Art'.

He is a successful oil painter, printmaker and a distinctively luminous teacher. Sultan traces the imprints of colonialism in our thought and art practice as a precondition for decolonization.
