Housewife’s wrist, fingers severed by miscreants

Maryam Begum, 40, wife of Nabi Ullah, an expatriate of Bashikpur under Chandraganj police station of Lakshmipur and her daughter Razia Sultana, 7, were seriously injured in a miscreants attack on Saturday night.

Maryam's head was severely injured in the sharp chisel blow while her right wrist and four fingers of her left hand were almost severed.

The incident took place at Balaishpur Dewan Bari in Bashikpur Union under Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. 

After the attack, locals took the injured mother Maryam Begum and her daughter Razia to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, where the on-duty doctor referred them to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

According to the locals, a group of miscreants broke into Maryam's house at Dewan Bari at night. When they were stopped, they cut Maryam and Razia randomly with chisels and caused serious injuries. However, the miscreants fled when the neighbors came forward hearing their shouts.  

Police said, after receiving the news at night, Superintendent of Police Dr Kamruzzaman and other police officers rushed to the spot. Two locals named Jahed and Sohail were brought to the police station for questioning in this regard.
