A housewife was killed and five others injured in a series of factional clashes on Monday morning between Sarurtia UP chairman Mahmudul Hasan Mamun and another AL leader Julfiqar Kaiser Tipu.
The deceased was identified as Sufia Khatun, 55, wife of Jalal Uddin of Bhatbaria village under Saritia union at Shailkupa upazila in Jhenaidah.
Locals and police said two factional groups had been engaged in clash as a regular feature of their political stand aiming at domination at Katlagari cattle market as well as the area. Both the groups were prepared to face each other with sharp and lethal weapons since Monday morning. Suddenly the followers of Mamun had swooped on the house of rival Tipu’s man Jalal Uddin at about 7:00 am. Jalal Uddin’s wife Sufia Khatun died in the attack on the spot, while five others injured.
The injured were Sufia Khatun’s son Sagar, Bellal Hossain, Jahidul and two others. They were rushed to Shailkupa Upazila Health Complex. Police visited the spot immediate after the incident. The body was sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for post mortem.
