Housewife contests against mother-in-law for councilor post

A daughter-in- law and her mother-in-law are fighting for the post of reserved women councilor of the reserved ward of Bogura municipality. Their campaigns are going on in full swing. Wide discussions are taking place among the voters as two rivals are fighting for the same post from the same house. 

It has been known that Khodeja Begum, three-time elected woman councilor of ward 10, 11 and 12 of Bogura Municipality, lives with her two sons in the same house in Thanthaniya are in Bogura town. Rebeka Sultana Lima, wife of her eldest son Alamgir, has always been active in Khodeja's election campaign. 

However, this time Lima herself has entered the field as a rival of her mother-in-law. Due to the election battle, their relatives are also participating in their campaign by splitting. 

Khodeja Begum is being supported by her younger son Jahangir Hossain, elder daughter Asma Elahi and other relatives while Lima’s Husband Alamgir Hossain, sister-in-law Nazma Akhter and other relatives are standing beside Lima in the election. 

Bogura municipal election is scheduled to be held on February 28. Khodeja Begum and Rebeka sultana are fighting in the election battle with the symbols of China rose and pair of glasses respectively.  Khodeja Begum said, I have  been working for the people of the area for 17 consecutive years. I have stood by them in their hard times. She believes that the voters will reward her for her work again. Although her daughter-in-law is competing against her, she is not concerned about it at the moment. She expressed her optimism about winning the election. 

On the other hand, Rebeka Sultana Lima said she has been maintaining communication with ward residents for a long time. She has received a wide response. She is one hundred percent optimistic about winning the election. 

Khodeja's eldest son, Alamgir Hossain, said, his mother fell ill a few months ago, therefore they wanted her wife to be a candidate for the post of councilor. Other candidates from the same ward are Fatema Begum Chanda, Rabeya Khatun, Afroza Akter Rima, Bilasi Rani Sarkar and Shahinur.
