A housewife named Josna Begum (45) was beaten to death by her neighbours in Parnanduali area of the Magura town on Thursday night for protesting against the neighbour’s cow eating grass from her garden.

Josna Begum’s neighbour named Jihad Hossain and his family members beat her on Thursday afternoon. She died at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat area on Thursday night while she was being sent to Dhaka in critical condition. Police arrested Jihad's wife Zahura Begum in the incident.

Rubel Sheikh, the eldest son of the deceased Josna Begum, said they had cultivated Napier grass on their own land near the house. Jihad Hossain's cow entered into the field of Napier grass on Thursday morning. His mother Josna Begum complained on the matter to Jihad.

Shortly after the incident, Josna Begum and Rubel were returning home after bathing in the local Kumar River at noon. On their way, Jihad Hossain and his family members attacked and beat Josna and her son Rubel in a pre-planned manner. Local people rescued them and admitted them to the 250-bed Magura Sadar Hospital. When Josna Begum's condition deteriorated in the afternoon, she was first taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and then was being taken to Dhaka for better treatment. Rubel is undergoing treatment at the 250-bed Magura Sadar Hospital.
