The health department has closed 14 hospital-diagnostic centres in Chattogram due to various irregularities.
The health department conducted raids in 14 upazilas of Chittagong, including the metropolis, and closed these hospital-diagnostic centres on Tuesday.
According to sources in the Civil Surgeon's office, the health department closed 14 hospital-diagnostic centres in 14 upazilas in addition to city hospitals. Among them, several hospitals-diagnostic centres in Boalkhali, Rangunia, Banshkhali, Anwara, Sitakund, Mirsarai and Lohagara, Satkania were closed by the authorities.
Many complications started to be lodged after caesarean delivery of pregnant women in these clinics. Then the infection comes to the incision site. Complaints against several hospitals where rotting started at the place of stitching were filed in the Chattogram Civil Surgeon's Office.
Civil surgeon Dr Mohammad Elias Chowdhury launched a campaign against the defective hospitals after receiving the complaint. In the operation, he attacked some private clinics and hospitals in Chattogram city and discovered various irregularities in the operation theatres of these institutions.
Raids were conducted at Chattogram Medical East Gate Mirror Hospital, Unit-1 and People's Hospital at Chawkbazar in Panchlaish of the city on Tuesday. Apart from this, the Civil Surgeon also raided two diagnostic centres, Family Health Care and Eagle Eye Diagnostic Center in the East Gate area of the Medical Centre. Several irregularities were observed at Desh Medical Hospital in the city on Wednesday. Operations without experienced nurses, excessive use of gloves, and non-deposit of taxes and VAT in institutions, authorities are running without registered doctors. The country's medical facilities are closed indefinitely.
Went to Mirror Hospital and found no emergency department. For this reason, all activities except the eye department were ordered to be closed. The hospital's operation theatre (OT) was filthy. Besides, expired injections were found in the hospital.
Besides, dirty environment was also found in the operation theatre (OT) of People's Hospital. OT tables were not standardized for patient care. Two injections held for the patient were found to be expired.
There was a dearth of diploma nurses in critical areas like operation theatres. No price list. The hospital was ordered to close its OT activities for 10 days.
A similar situation was observed at Eagle's Eye Diagnostic and Mirror Hospital, Family Health Care. Besides, there is no emergency department in Mirror Hospital.
Meanwhile, the operation of Mirror Hospital was going on till night even though it was asked to stop. When the patient contacted the hospital number on the phone, the staff, who did not want to reveal their names, asked them to come to the second floor of the hospital and contact them.
Civil Surgeon said, "Operation theatre is one of the most important places. Where the patient has to be taken to the operation table after seeing the presence of all-necessary. Nevertheless, the mismanagement that I saw made my eyes widen.
He said, I had some complaints about some surgeries. They get infection at the incision site. Participating in the campaign is to know why this is happening. Civil surgeon Dr Elias Chowdhury has instructed the institutions to fill the deficit within the next 10 days.
