Home Minister visits Rohingya camps to see fire victims

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Wednesday said legal actions will be taken against wrongdoers if any anomaly is found centering the fire incident at Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar. 

Two investigation committees have been already formed to investigate the matter. They are asked to submit a report to the authorities concerned. No negligence will be tolerated in this regard, he said.

The minister made the remarks while speaking at a briefing after visiting a Rohingya camp in Ukhia on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Home Minister visited the affected Rohingya camps and distributed clothes to the affected Rohingya people.  He reached the Rohingya camp by helicopter at 2:00pm. He later spoke to the Rohingyas at the Balukhali camp. The minister expressed his sorrow over the fire incidence and assured assistance to all the victims.

The minister also told reporters that Bhasan Char is now a much developed and safe place. The government will take the affected Rohingyas there if they want to go there. He mentioned that the first priority of the government is to send the Rohingyas back to their own country Myanmar safely. We have always urged the world community to take the needful steps to send the Rohingyas back to their country (Myanmar). Bangladesh hopes that the world community will play a vital role in sending the Rohingya back to their homeland.

Cox's Bazar Ramu MP Saimum Sarwar Kamal, Home Ministry Secretary (Security and Services) Mohammad Shahiduzzaman, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Shah Rezwan Hayat, Cox's Bazar Deputy Commissioner Dr Mamunur Rashid, Chittagong Range Police DIG Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Rapid Action Battalion 15 Commander Azim Uddin Ahmed were present among others. 

The minister also visited the police camp which was burnt in the fire incident. 

Later, he visited the hospital of the international organization IOM. The minister then left Cox's Bazar for Dhaka by helicopter. Earlier on March 22, a devastating fire was originated at five Rohingya camps in Balukhali of Ukhia Upazila. 

11 Rohingyas were killed in the fire incident. Hundreds of houses were burnt and thousands of Rohingyas were displaced.
