Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) nabbed Henolux Group Managing Director Nurul Amin and his wife Fatema Amin from city’s Uttara area on Tuesday for abetting the suicide of former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader and also a contractor, Gazi Anis, who set himself on fire in front of the National Press Club.

Earlier, a case was filed against the duo for abetting the suicide. Nazrul Islam, brother of the deceased lodged the case with Shahbagh Police Station on Tuesday. Sub Inspector of Shahbag Police Station Golam Hossain confirmed it to the media.

Gazi Anis, former president of Kushtia District Chhatra League, and a contractor by profession, attempted suicide by setting himself on fire outside the National Press Club on Monday.

He succumbed to his injuries around 6:10am on Tuesday while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn And Plastic Surgery.

Mohammad Ali, an acquaintance of Anis, said, “Gazi Anis attempted suicide for not getting the money that people owed him.”

Two months ago, he also staged a human chain in front of the press club claiming that a microcredit company owed him around Tk1.26 crore.

According to the case document, Henolux Group Managing Director Nurul Amin and his wife Fatema Amin convinced Anis to invest Tk1 crore, assuring him of hefty profits in 2018. Later, he invested another Tk 26 lakh.

According to the case statement, the accused now owe Anis over Tk3 crore which has prompted him to file a case against him at Kushtia Cognizance Court.

Nazrul Islam said that on Monday, he received a call from his brother saying that Nurul and Fatima had assured Anis of returning the money through cheque on that day but the duo did not pay the money.
