Health awareness workshop for women police held in Khagrachhari

A health awareness workshop for women police was held for the first time in Khagrachhari district on Sunday. 

Khagrachhari District Police, Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council (BPICC) and World's Poultry Science Association-Bangladesh Branch (WAPSA-BB) jointly organised the workshop.

Khagrachhari District Superintendent of Police Mukta Dhar, PPM (Bar) attended the programme as the chief guest while Professor of Poultry Science Department of Bangladesh Agricultural University and Executive Member of WAPSA-Bangladesh Dr Md Elias Hossain was present as the special guest. BPICC Secretary Debashis Nag delivered the welcome speech.

Shamsun Nahar Nahid (Mahua), chief nutritionist at Birdem Hospital, presented the keynote speech on women's health and nutrition. Nutritionist and diet consultant Ishrat Jahan of Sajeda Foundation spoke on the fitness stamina and diet plan for women police.  Dr Beauty Chakma of Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital and Md Jasim Uddin, PPM, Khagrachhari additional superintendent of police, crime and ops, were presents as speakers in the programme.

Among others, senior officers of Khagrachhari District Police, women officers of various ranks of the district and invited guests were present.

In the speech as chief guest, Khagrachhari Police Superintendent Mukta Dhar said, “We all know that health is the root of all happiness. If you are healthy, your children and family will be healthy. A major part of health awareness is personal hygiene. It sounds very simple but its importance is immense.”

The SP said there is no alternative to consuming nutritious food for women police to remain active and fit. “Not only if you are self-aware, family and relatives should also be made aware. Women police have to do outside duty for long hours. For their convenience, the government has arranged mobile toilets.”

The Superintendent of Police also said, “Many of us understand only physical health when we say health, but the human mind is also related to the body. Therefore, both physical and mental health should be taken care of. We all should do regular exercise, regular physical and mental health checkups. If the body and mind are healthy, one can work at home and outside with peace of mind.”

Around 350 policewomen were present in the workshop.

Dr Md Elias said, “To stay healthy, you have to eat protein-rich food along with rice. Eggs are a superfood. It contains almost all essential amino acids. Two eggs per day are very helpful for working women.”

Prof Elias said there are still many misconceptions about broiler meat but the reality is that most people around the world eat broiler chicken meat because it is healthy and safe.
