Health assistants stage sit-in to press for 6-point demand

Members of the Bangladesh Health Assistant Association, Thakurgaon district, staged a sit-in protest in front of the Civil Surgeon’s Office on Tuesday. A total of 166 health assistants participated, demanding implementation of a 6-point charter.

Their key demands include amending recruitment rules through executive order to require a science background and ensure 14th-grade status, granting technical rank through in-service diploma training, securing higher-grade promotions, recognising experienced health assistants and inspectors under the graduate pay scale, adjusting salaries accordingly, and officially acknowledging in-service SIT diploma holders as diploma-qualified professionals.

Speakers at the programme included Moshiur Rahman, President of the Bangladesh Health Assistant Association, Thakurgaon District, Bajlar Rahman Manik, General Secretary and Ismail Hossain, General Secretary of the Sadar Upazila unit, among others.
