Hathuru to come back on April 30

Published : 07 Apr 2024 09:46 PM

Chandika Hathuru Singha expected to return Bangladesh on April 30, just two days before the Bangladesh-Zimbabwe series kick off.

Hathuru Snigha, who went Australia on an urgent leave due to his family crisis, will join the team on April 30.

Meanwhile, the squad for the five-match series against Zimbabwe will e announced in accordance with the guideline of the coach.

According to sources of BCB, it will be a shadow team of the T20 World Cup, who will play against Zimbabwe.

The squad for the series against Zimbabwe will be announced by four or five days after the Eid, sources said. However, after a bitter experience of losing T20, ODI and being white washed in Test series against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh will begin their official preparation for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup from May 2 when they will host Zimbabwe.

Bangladesh is scheduled to play five-match T20 series against Zimbabwe to start from May 2 and after the series, team will leave for the USA to play the World Cup 2024, however they will also play a T20 series against the USA.

Bangladesh Cricket Board is likely to announce the team for the Zimbabwe and as well as for World Cup after a fitness test to be held on May 18.

But by this time 23 players have already completed their Visa process while five players have their USA Visas. Meanwhile, the Tigers had mixed experiences in T20 cricket in 2023 and last few months of 2024. In 2023 Tigers had very good time in the T20 cricket, might be they had the best ever results in T20 formats.

Bangladesh won 10 T20s out of 14 matches they played in bilateral series in 2023 when they white washed the defending T20 World Cup champions England, won the series against New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Though, they won two and lost three matches in the T20 World Cup in 2022-2023 followed by defeats in all four matches in a tri-nation series involving Bangladesh, Pakistan and host New Zealand.

But in 2024 Bangladesh suffered 2-1 defeat in their only two-match T20 series against Sri Lanka in home ground was held early of last month (March).

Now, it’s hard to predict that who would be the lucky enough to travel to the USA from the 28-men preliminary squad, have already completed their visa process of the USA.

Apart from five to six auto choice, rest of the players including both the batters and the bowlers, will have to fight to make room in the USA bound squad.

But they will have the best opportunity to prove them during the Zimbabwe tour of Bangladesh, might be some of the players could not overcome the fitness test.

The players will have the first priority to get chances in the squad, who have consistency but it is very much true that constant performers in the Bangladesh squad are very few. Selectors may be face some hitches to pick up the best team, as some of the players are have good striking rate but not at all consistence but some of them are a bit steady but their striking rates are not satisfactory.

However, it will be something a difficult job for the selectors to pick the best squad for the upcoming world Cup, though the series against Zimbabwe would make it a bit easy for the selectors to choice the better performers.
