Harvesting of Zinc-enriched BRRI-102 variety paddy started in Gobra area under Sadar upazila of Narail on Monday. A Field Day program was also held there.
The field day was organized under the initiative of Feed the Future Bangladesh Climate Smart Agriculture Activity (CSA) project which was implementing organization International Fertilizer Development Corporation (IFDC).
On the occasion, a discussion was held at the yard of farmer Badsha Molya at Gobra village. Deputy Director of Narail Department of Agricultural Extension Ashek Parvez was present at the discussion as the chief guest. IFDC Field Supervisor Shariful Alam Moni, Community Officer Farzana Sultana, Deputy Assistant Agriculture Officer Ripon Gain, farmers Badsha Molla, Md Billal Biswas among others were present in the field day discussion.
IFDC Field Supervisor Shariful Alam Moni said BRRI-102 variety of paddy is rich in Zinc. It is also disease resistant. The variety of rice increases immunity and prevents diarrhea. The use of Urea fertilizer is very low in BRRI-102 variety of rice.
Officials of Department of Agriculture Extension Narail are encouraging farmers to cultivate BRRI-102 variety of rice, he said.
