On the occasion of the New Year 2023 in the English calendar, we are extending heartiest greetings to all the citizens of Bangladesh staying home and abroad, our valued readers, contributors, writers, patrons and advertisers.

Festival loving people across the world are welcoming the Happy New Year 2023 today (Sunday) amid global crisis caused by Covid-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war. Greeting the rising sun of the bold New Year like other foreign countries across the globe people of Bangladesh also want a fresh start.

The celebration of Bengali New Year has merged with the our national culture but the English New Year influences all because of the widespread use of the English calendar in daily activities.

We hope the New Year will bring new hopes to the nation's social, political, economic, and cultural areas. We are also recalling with profound respect the eminent personalities like academics, artistes, and political leaders lost in the last year in our country and elsewhere across the globe.

We all have to make all-out efforts

so that Bangladesh never has to face any

situation like famine and food

 insufficiency due to prolonged Russia-Ukraine

conflict and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic

People saw the inauguration of the long-cherished Padma Multipurpose Bridge, opening of country’s first-ever metro rail and inauguration of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) at Unit-2 of the 2400MW RNPP in the immediate past year. Besides, 100 highways and 100 bridges were also opened in the outgoing year. Bangladesh also celebrated the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of the country’s Independence.

Apart from these, successful implementation of the ‘Digital Bangladesh’ encouraged the country to set the new target of building an innovative and knowledge-based ‘SMART Bangladesh’ coinciding with the ‘Vision-2041’ meant to turn Bangladesh into a developed nation.

We also witnessed the BNP-Jamaat clique's conspiracy to come to the power through undemocratic ways after being boycotted by the people throughout the year of 2022.

So, we all have to remain alert about anti-state plots being hatched by local and foreign conspirators and help the government overcome the current global crisis steamed from the Covid-19  pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war. As the world leaders apprehends that a famine or food insufficiency may hit the world in the New Year 2023 due to the war, we all have to make all-out efforts so that Bangladesh never has to face any situation like famine and food insufficiency due to prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict and the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. We hope that this English New Year 2023 will usher a new journey for us erasing all the odds and stains of the immediate past year.
