Gretel and Hansel’, Orion Pictures' reimagining of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, has set a date with movie audiences. According to sources, the film will open on January 31, 2020.
‘Gretel and Hansel’ stars Sophia Lillis made her debut with her breakout performance in the hit 2017 Stephen King adaptation ‘It’. ‘It’ also stars newcomer Sammy Leakey, Alice Krige of ‘Star Trek: First Contact’, Jessica De Gouw from ‘Arrow' and Charles Babalola from ‘Black Mirror'.
Osgood Perkins, the filmmaker behind horror films like ‘The Blackcoat’s Daughter’ and ‘I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House’, is directing the project and co-wrote it with Rob Hayes. The story is described as being set a long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside and focuses on a young girl who leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.
Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (‘Sinister’, ‘Upgrade’) and Fred Berger (‘La La Land’, ‘Autopsy of Jane Doe’) will be partnering with Automatik Entertainment to produce the film. Sandra Yee Ling will be the executive producer.
