Grabbers occupy canals

The locals adjacent to canals area have forcibly occupied most of the canals of the district, and constructed establishment causing sewerage system hampered, even creating water logging in different areas during downpour. Once a canal was the main sewerage system of Sadar upazila at Kashipur area, and the canal was continuously flowing from Masdair to Buriganga River. Now the canal is illegally occupied by constructing structures and filling earth.

Another canal, which started from Panchabati BSCIC area and connected with Buriganga river carried sewerage of the BSCIC, now it has become flow less and the people suffer a lot. Locals called it Kallani khal.  Both the khals are under Fatulla police station of Narayanganj Sadar upazila in the district.

Several times the sufferers had filed application to the authority concern even to the environment office here, but to no purpose. A complainant Ziauddin Punnu who filed complaint to the Sadar assistant commissioner (land) and district environment office told the Bangladesh Post that after application, a surveyor came to the spot and then everything disappeared. Canal dependent people have untold sufferings from flash flood and heavy rainfall.
