Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Md Tajul Islam said that due to the global context, the prices of essential commodities have increased not only in Bangladesh but also in other countries of the world.

The minister also said that the government is trying to control the prices of essential commodities by thinking of the common people.

The minister made this assertion at the inaugural function of Bangladesh Youth Cadet Forum (BYCF) X Cadet Camp-2022 on the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence and victory at the proposed Sheikh Kamal Krira Palli in Cumilla on Friday.

The local government minister said production in many industries had declined due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Communications were shut down, fuel oil prices rose to record levels. Commodity prices have risen in almost all countries of the world including India, China, England and Singapore. Besides, the Russia-Ukraine war has affected the world market. Bangladesh is not an isolated country. As a result, the prices of essential commodities have also gone up in the country. He said it is not possible to reduce the prices of all products suddenly. Even then, the government is trying to keep the prices of daily necessities within the reach of the common people. It has decided to reduce tariffs on imported essentials so that people can buy at lower prices.

In this context, Md Tajul Islam also said that at present the purchasing power of the people has increased and the per capita income has also increased. As the demand for the product has also increased, so has the impact on prices. He also mentioned that the prices of products are increasing due to increase in production cost.

Earlier, speaking as the chief guest, the minister said cadets could play a role in establishing justice and changing the society.

Being able to do something for people is the true meaning of life. You can't live well on earth alone. If you want to be good, you have to take everyone with you. You must be on the path of justice and truth. It is important to establish good governance and justice in order to create an ideal society and state.

Mentioning that several big projects have been undertaken for the development of Cumilla town, the Minister said that if these projects are implemented, then there will be a huge change in Cumilla district. All the canals under the City Corporation will be renovated and excavated to enhance its beauty. He also said that those who have occupied the canals and built illegal structures will be evicted.

Cumilla City Corporation Mayor Md Monirul Islam Sakku, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, Superintendent of Police Faruk Ahmed, Adarsh Sadar Upazila Chairman Advocate Aminul Islam Tutul were present as special guests at the function presided over by BYCF Founding Chairman Shah Mojibul Haque.
