Govt to set up digital archive on Bangabandhu

The government will set up a digital archive on Bangabandhu to inform the new generation about different aspects of the life and ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS.

The information was revealed on Thursday in a meeting of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee in the capital, said a press release. The chief coordinator of the birth centenary celebration national implementation committee Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury presided over the meeting at International Mother Language Institute in the city. .

He said the new generation has to learn about the various aspects of Bangabandhu’s leadership and his sacrifice during his long imprisonment. Therefore, digital information, including video footages, clippings of newspapers and digital clips of Bangabandhu at home and abroad, will be collected and preserved in a single place through an archive, he added.

With the help of Access to Information (a2i) project, the archive will be developed, he said. All the video footages based on Bangabandhu’s speech and activities will be collected from Bangladesh Film Archive, Press Institute Bangladesh, Department of Films and Publications, Department of Archives and Library, Bangladesh Television and other private TV channels, he added.

Besides, Department of Archives and Library will also include updated information on Bangabandhu at its Bangabandhu Corner. International Mother Language Institute Director General Prof Dr Zinnat Imtiaz Ali attended the meeting as the special guest. Film Archive Director General (DG) Bidhan Chandra Karmakar, Department of Archive and Library DG Farid Uddin, National Poetry Council General Secretary Tarik Sujat and Additional Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry Md Nizam Uddin were present, among others, on the occasion.
