Govt to procure 90,000 tonnes of fertilisers

The government will procure some 90,000 metric tonnes (MTs) of fertiliser to meet the growing demand in the country.

The approval came from the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) held Wednesday virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting virtually, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin said that the meeting also approved three separate proposals under which the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure some 90,000MTs of fertilizer.

He said, the BCIC would procure some 30,000MTs of granular urea fertilizer from KAFCO, Bangladesh for around Tk 185.85 crore, another 30,000MTs of bulk prield urea fertilizer from Muntajat, Qatar for around Tk 189.40 crore and the rest of 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) for around Tk 190.25 crore.

He mentioned that the CCGP meeting approved another proposal from the Secondary and Higher Education Division for awarding the contracts of two packages to the joint venture of the Builders Engineers Associates Ltd, Electro Global, package no-PW-6(2) and to the joint venture of MBPL and ATCL for around Tk 100.61 crore under the project for further development of Bangladesh Agricultural University.

Arefin also informed that a proposal from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) for procuring tabs was withdrawn from the meeting and it is likely to be submitted again before the next meeting.

The CCGP also approved a proposal to procure two Mi-171A2 Russian helicopters from JSC Russian Helicopters for Bangladesh Police for around Tk 428.12 crore in order to further strengthen the capacity of this law enforcement agency.

On the other hand, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Wednesday approved two separate proposals in principle including one for appointing the joint venture of BRTC, BUET and SMEC International Pty Ltd as the consultant for the Rajshahi WASA Surface Water Treatment Plant Project.

Rajshahi WASA under the Local Government Division will implement the project.

Md Shamsul Arefin said that the meeting approved another proposal in principle from the ICT Division for implementing the packages (goods and public works) by the Diesel Plant Limited of Bangladesh

Army under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) for setting up 11 IT training and incubation centers at 11 districts.

These centrs are being established under the project for setting up Sheikh Keamal IT Training and Incubation Centers (11) being implemented by the Bangladesh Hi-tech Park Authority.
