The alarming spike in the recent coronavirus cases and deaths is getting severe as the days are passing by. In almost every country of the world, the new wave has hit hard and people are dying because of lack of oxygen.
Now to safeguard people from the deadly virus, the government is looking to explore new sources of covid vaccines. Bangladesh will receive 100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine for Covid-19 in May through the Covax mechanism. This indeed is good news amid the current situation.
The government is also set to modify its policy to make room for more import of Covid-19 vaccines from Russia and China. Although vaccines from these countries are still to be accepted by global regulatory bodies, however our government is taking everything into account to vaccinate our people and fulfil the vaccination target.
Our priority should be to look at all possible
sources of the vaccine and meet our primary
goal of vaccinating the vulnerable groups
Many countries imported China’s Sinopharm and Russia’s Sputnik V vaccines and they have been proved very effective against Covid-19. There have not been any negative reports of substantial side effects from these vaccines. Therefore, considering them and thinking of importing them is most likely to bear fruit.
Alongside the imported vaccines, we believe our locally produced vaccine will also guarantee the supply we need to protect the country’ people rapidly and in large numbers.
Our priority should be to look at all possible sources of the vaccine and meet our primary goal of vaccinating the vulnerable groups. Our country has many big pharmaceutical companies, which are capable of producing the vaccine and they should be ready to produce in this hour of need.
