‘Govt lands need to be rescued from grabbers’

A meeting was held regarding government land recovery and forest Salimpur master plan. A meeting was held in the conference room of Chattogram Circuit House regarding the master plan of jungle Salimpur and the freeing of encroachment of government land from the hands of land robbers living there on Saturday.  Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister Ahmad Kaikaus was present as the chief guest.

Divisional Commissioner Md Ashraf Uddin, Chattogram Range DIG Md Anwar Hossain, CMP Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Mominur Rahman, Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque, former mayor and general secretary of Chattogram Awami League AJM Nasir Uddin and other government and  Political leaders including senior officials of private departments and upazila chairman participated in the open discussion.

  The speakers said that a designated terrorist group centered in Salimpur, a forest rich in natural beauty, has been destroying forest land for a long time and has been selling private land to common people for money.  

Where thousands of families are living under the constant threat of landslides.  

Also, jungle Salimpur has now become a safe haven for terrorist groups.  Terrorists are continuing to steal lakhs of rupees from common people by destroying forest land and selling private land in innovative ways.

   Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister.  Ahmad Kaikaus directed the administration and law enforcement to take swift and strict action to counter all obstacles created by land grabbers in Salimpur.  He requested for speedy implementation of the decisions taken in the meeting.

  During this, various projects related to the proposed Jungle Salimpur Master Plan were discussed.  The projects include Sports Village, Heart Foundation Hospital, Safari Park, Chittagong Central Jail, High Power Radio Broadcasting Centre, Hill Management Committee Training Centre, Customs Dumping House, Green Industrial Area, Chattogram Cantonment and setting up of BMA and Ansar and VDP Training Centres.  Chattogram Deputy Commissioner said that an important decision has been taken to ensure that there is no new hill cutting and illegal land occupation in Salimpur forest.  It has also been decided to give a master plan within the next one to one and a half months regarding the master plan of the government in Jungle Salimpur.

  Meanwhile, the Deouty Commissioner expressed the hope of implementing a beautiful master plan for the people of Chattogram by keeping the mountain environment and surroundings intact.
