The scenario of health services has completely changed in a year as the quality of health services improved significantly at Upazila Health Complex (UHC) in Kaliganj.

Earlier, the patients had to depend on local private clinics and hospitals for better treatment in Kaliganj. But, now the patients have been getting better health facilities in the government’s health complex.

It was recognized as the 13th best among all the upazila level health complexes across the country for its outstanding services, UHC authorities said. A number of patients at the UHC said the service providers including physicians, nurses, other staff members of the health complex are punctual and dutiful following the guidance of the authorities.

As the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been assuring better health services supplying adequate drugs and other support for the community people, they are receiving drugs free of cost with a token price for Tk five only.

The present beautification of the health complex in remote Kaliganj is attracting the people to get treatment in a suitable environment. Construction of new entrance, setting up a number of dustbins, establishing garden, waiting room for the visitors, breast feeding corner and other facilities have made the health complex exceptional and decent, locals said.

Some female patients of the UHC said that the quality of services was improved. So they take treatment here instead of rushing to private hospitals and clinics. The physicians and nurses are more attentive to the patients, they said. Jesmine Ara Hashi, community health care providers at Nalbhanga community clinic said they have been providing treatment in remote villages six days a week with their utmost sincerity. The authorities have been supplying 30 types of medicines free of cost in the community clinic. They refer the critical patients to the Kaliganj health complex.

Upazila health and family planning officer in Kaliganj Dr. Shamima Shirin said the patients of the upazila were dependent on private hospitals and clinics. Earlier, a number of pregnant women and newborn babies had died due to wrong treatment in the area. She had never allowed the brokers of private hospitals, diagnostic centres and clinics.

Since her joining at the UHC a year back, she has been motivating the people to lean towards government hospital to receive proper treatment free of cost as the government has ensured treatment for all.

The people of the upazila have been showing little interest in rushing to private hospitals and clinics like previous time and receiving better treatment in her UHC. CHCPs and other staff members of 11 community clinics have been playing role to motivate the patients to rush UHC for proper and better treatment.

UHFPO said only hard work and sincere service from the government health sectors might make the nation healthy.
