We highly appreciate Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's zero tolerance policy against the terrorism, militancy and religious fanaticism in her valedictory speech in the twelfth session of the 11th parliament in which she said her government would not tolerate non-Islamic activities like arson attacks and vandalism in the name of Islam and vowed to take legal actions against those involved in such activities.

Sheikh Hasina came up with this warning when extreme communal force Hefazat-e-Islam in association with Bangladesh Nationalist Party and anti-liberation forces Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami was continuously carrying out mayhem in different parts of the country, crossing all levels of tolerance.

Tough action must be taken against

those who commit anti-religious act

in the name of religion

They spread a rumour relating to killing of people in the Baitul Mukarram Mosque on March 26 and unleashed a reign of terror and conducted destruction from March 26 to March 31 in different places of the country. They attacked police stations, swooped down on the police and snatched their arms, set fire to the land office and different other establishments on Independence Day on March 26.

Subsequently, on March 27, these forces set fire to the railway station and slippers in Brahmanbaria. They also set fire to SP office and vandalised the mural of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. And that time (from March 17 to March 26) the nation was celebrating the golden jubilee of the country’s independence and birth centenary of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

We think the government should prepare a list of instigators of terrorism, anarchy and communal forces and they would be dealt with an iron hand. We are concerned as the extremist group Hefazat-e-Islam appeared as a threat to the country’s stability as it was spearheading a violent hate campaign with an evil political motive despite being a non-political forum.
