Govt announces cash awards for SSC, HSC toppers

The government has announced cash awards for students who secured the highest marks in the 2024 SSC and HSC examinations. Under the ‘Performance Based Grants for Secondary Institutions (PBGSI)’ scheme, top students will receive Tk 10,000 and Tk 25,000 as ‘Upazila Best Student Award’ and ‘Higher Secondary Completion Award’.

According to an office order issued by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), the list of top students from 11 education boards has already been prepared. The list has been sent to the e-mail addresses of respective upazila or thana secondary education officers.

The selected students have been asked to open a bank account in their own name at any branch of Agrani Bank in their upazila or nearby area by May 25. However, students who already have an account in Agrani Bank do not need to open a new one. They must update their old account information in the bank’s software under the PBGSI scheme.

To claim the cash award, students need to submit a copy of their exam admit card or marksheet while opening the account. This opportunity is also open for students who missed out on the award in the previous financial year due to not having an account.

Each upazila or thana secondary education officer will contact the selected students through their educational institutions. After opening the accounts, students’ account numbers, mobile numbers, and other necessary information — signed by both the bank officer and upazila education officer — must be submitted to Room 708 of the Education Building by May 29. Additionally, a soft copy of this information must be emailed to pbgsiaward@gmail.com.

The initiative aims to encourage students and recognise their academic excellence at the secondary and higher secondary levels.
