Governing body chief held over beating headmaster

Nur Islam, president of the governing body of Jagannathpur Government Primary School at Bera upazila in Pabna, was detained by police on Thursday in a case filed over beating headmaster of a school on Wednesday.

Upazila Education Officer Md Abu Sayed organised a meeting with teachers, students and governing of the school under Haturia Nakalia union at the upazila on Wednesday morning to discuss how to ensure quality education.

In the meeting, Nur Islam complained to the Education Officer that the teachers don’t teach the students properly. He also alleged that headmaster of the school don’t inform the governing about government allocation. Moreove,  the headmaster opened a coaching center violating government rules.

At the time, the headmaster and the governing body president engaged in an altercation in front of the Upazila Education Officer. At one stage, Nur Islam started beating the headmaster. 

On Wednesday afternoon, the headmaster filed a case against Nur Islam and committee members Md Abdul Alim and Md Altaf Ali with the local police station in this connection.
