Gopalganj LGED distributes seeds among farmers, holds training

With the aim of poverty alleviation in Gopalganj, training and seed distribution has been held on the initiative of the Directorate of Engineering of the local government.

Executive Engineer of Gopalganj LGED Ehsanul Haque has been tirelessly performing his assigned duties with skillful efficiency, honesty and devotion since joining the post of Executive Engineer in Gopalganj. With his tireless efforts, foresight and experience, massive development activities have been implemented in the district in a very short time.

Sriramkandi-Ghoperdanga sub-project of Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj was registered in 2012. The total land area under the sub-project is 840 hectares. The project includes three villages, one major canal and six link canals with a length of 8.3 km and 3.5 km of embankment. 

The sub-project consists of 11 enclosures, 97 ponds and 150 hectares of lowland. The sub-project has been brought under additional development as the Second Small Scale Water Resources Development Project has started. It consists of 07 canals totaling 8.3 km of re-excavation and 3.5 km of embankment.

Re-digging and damming of canals has resulted in two crops in one crop and three crops in two crops. The sub-project provides training on agriculture, fisheries, sewing machines, poultry and livestock. 

After successful training, 50 members were provided seeds of high-yielding varieties from the rice research of the members of the association.

Farmers said that 35 to 37 maunds of paddy per acre have been produced this year. Due to the good production, field day program of demonstration trial of Bangabandhu Dhan-100 was organized at field level under the initiative of Rice Research Council. Agriculture Ministry Secretary Wahida Akhtar was present as the chief guest. Dr Mohammad Bakhtiar, Executive Chairman of Rice Research Council, was present as the president. Gopalganj LGED Executive Engineer Ehsanul Haque, Tungipara Upazila Awami League President Sheikh Abul Bashar Khair, General Secretary Babul Sheikh and many others were present as special guests.

In the sub-project area the members of the association are trained in floodplain fish farming. After sewing training, each female member earns 5-7 thousand rupees per month by doing sewing work. After the training of poultry and cattle, the members of the society raise poultry and cattle by taking loans from the society.
