Google has paid tribute to the late Krishnakumar Kunnath, popularly known as KK, with a special Doodle celebrating the beloved Indian playback singer.
The Google Doodle, which creatively alters the company’s logo, often highlights holidays, events, and notable figures.
Born on August 23, 1968, in Delhi, KK's soulful voice and romantic ballads have left a lasting mark on Indian music. He began his musical journey after graduating from Kirori Mal College at Delhi University. Although he initially worked in marketing, his passion for singing soon led him to pursue music full-time.
KK’s breakthrough came in 1994, when a demo tape earned him a role performing commercial jingles. By 1999, he gained fame in Bollywood with the emotional hit "Tadap Tadap" from *Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam*. That same year, his debut solo album *Pal* featured the iconic song "Yaaron," which became an anthem of friendship.
Throughout his career, KK recorded over 500 Hindi songs and 200 regional tracks in languages like Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam. He also voiced approximately 3,500 jingles in 11 languages, solidifying his status as one of India’s most prolific playback singers.
KK received numerous accolades, including six Filmfare Award nominations and two Star Screen Awards, recognising his exceptional ability to convey emotion through music.
Tragically, KK passed away after his final performance in Kolkata. In his honour, a statue was erected in the city, celebrating the profound impact he had on music lovers across India.
