A group of thieves broke into the 150-year-old Kali Mandir in Sadarghat in Chattogram city and stole gold ornaments and money from the donation box.
The theft took place on Saturday night.
It is known that the thieves climbed onto the tin roof of the temple and broke the glass ventilator to enter. They stole a gold and a silver crown weighing four bhari, earrings, a chain with a locket weighing two bhari, a silver necklace weighing four bhari, a gold locket weighing four annas and the donation box and broke the money.
Temple attendant Sana Bhattacharya said that the theft came to light after the temple door was opened around 7 am. There may be 60 to 70 thousand taka given by devotees in the donation box. The main door was locked. I think the thief may have climbed onto the roof of the house behind the temple and broken the ventilator to enter.
Kotwali Police Station OC Abdul Karim said, we have inspected the scene. The thief could not be identified as there was no CCTV camera there. The temple authorities have filed a complaint. The theft is being investigated.
