The final match and prize distribution ceremony of the “Upazila Administration Gold Cup Football Tournament-2025” were held in a colorful manner at the Meherpur District Stadium on Wednesday in a festive atmosphere.
The event was jointly organised by the Upazila Administration and Upazila Sports Association.
In the final match, the Amjhupi Union team and the Shyampur Union team faced each other. After a goalless draw at the scheduled time, Shyampur Union won the tiebreaker. The winning team was awarded a trophy and Tk 20,000 while the runner-up team was awarded a trophy and Tk 15,000 as the prize.
The chief guest of the event was Meherpur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Dr. Mohammad Abdul Salam.
He said, “Sports inspire the young people with discipline, perseverance and team spirit. Only through sports can the youth stay away from drugs and crime.”
Upazila Executive Officer Khairul Islam presided over the program. He said, “The main goal of this organization of the Upazila administration is to involve the young generation in healthy entertainment. We want the practice of sports to be further expanded in every village.”
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Tariqul Islam, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sumaiya Jahan Jhurka, Assistant Commissioner Sheikh Tahidul Kabir, Investigation Inspector of Sadar Police Station Aminul Islam, public representatives, teachers and sports organizers were also present at the program.
At the end of the game, the guests handed over trophies and cash to the winning and runner-up teams. There was lively participation of players and spectators throughout the entire program.
