Giant dead blue whale on Himchhari beach

A giant dead blue whale was found dead at Himchhari Point on Marine Drive in Cox’s Bazar beach on Friday noon. Locals rushed to see it at a glance. A crowd of curious people formed around the body of the whale.

Later, the locals informed the forest department and the environment department about the floating body. After the tide receded, the dead whale was clearly visible lying on the sand of the sea.

However, the dead whale was spreading odor. The front part of the dead whale had become distorted as it floats in the sea water.

Chairman of the environmental organization Save the Nature of Bangladesh Hussein Riyadh said that the signs and smells of the dead whale’s injuries indicate that the whale died almost a week ago.

President of the Cox’s Bazar Forest and Environment Protection Council, Deepak Sharma said that in 1996 and 2008, two separate giant whales’ bodies floated to the shore just like this. After a long time, a huge dead whale has floated on the beach again. 

Marine Life expert Zahirul Islam said the whale, aged about 17 to 18, may have died 5/6 days ago. 

The whale, 44 feet long and 28 feet in diameter, is expected to weigh approximately five tons.

Mohammad Ashraful Haque, senior scientific officer at the Bangladesh Fisheries Research Center, said that these male whales roam the Bay of Bengal.
