‘Getting over water logging, traffic congestion needed for smart city’

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said the expectations of implementing smart city will not be fulfilled just by taking pilot project. It is necessary to build a city free from waterlogging and traffic jams.  City dwellers have to be aware and get in the habit of following the rules and regulations.

 He added that dreams must be seen and shown.  With the courage to move forward beyond her means, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been able to establish Bangladesh in a dignified seat in the World Assembly.

CCC Mayor made the assertion while speaking at the inaugural function of modernization of digital traffic management in Chittagong metropolis at Kazir Deuri Chattar on Saturday morning.

Chittagong City Corporation Elected Council Water& Power Standing Committee Chairman Ward Councilor Md. Morshed Alam presided over the function and Supervising Engineer (Power) Jhulan Kumar Das conducted the function.

CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, Panel Mayor Md. Gias Uddin, Councilor Prof. Md. Ismail, Md. Jabed, Md. Salim Ullah Bachchu, Shaibal Das Sumon, Reserved Councilor Anjuman Ara, Chief Engineer Rafiqul Islam Manik, Mayor's Private Secretary Muhammad Abul Hashem, Executive Engineer Md. Rezaul Bari Bhuiyan, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shyamal Kumar Nath, DC Traffic Shakila Sultana, Md. Tarek Ahmed, Ali Hossain, Md. Nasir Uddin, Mass Group Chief Research Engineer  Swapan Kumar Palit, Advisor Shahinul Islam Khan spoke as special guests on the occasion. 

CCC mayor said that no one ever thought that the construction of Padma Bridge would be possible without the help of the World Bank.  But the Prime Minister has fulfilled the nation's expectations by making the impossible possible. A tunnel road is being constructed at the bottom of Karnafuli.  As a result, the importance of Chittagong city will increase many times and Chittagong city will expand to the south.  He emphasized on the utilization of power, saying that power outages have reached unbearable levels due to errors in power supply management.  So system faults and mismanagement need to be resolved quickly.  It is public expectation.  I hope the government needs to ensure the necessary inter-agency coordination for the mega projects it is implementing.

 CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir said the implementation of smart city is not possible for CCC alone.  This requires concerted efforts and accountability.  He lauded the group for developing traffic management systems, lane marking, zebra crossings, parking spots, dropping zones, bus-cars, CNG and rickshaws.  Traffic management reports were presented at the event through PowerPoint.
