General Aziz inaugurates multinational military exercise

The inaugural ceremony of the international military training Shantir Ogroshena - 2021 was held at Bangabandhu Cantonment in Tangail on Sunday.  

Chief of Bangladesh Army General Aziz Ahmed inaugurated the training. 

The training was organized on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence in a bid to uphold his relentless efforts in establishing peace. Army Quartermaster General Lt Gen SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, GOC Lt Gen SM Matiur Rahman of Army Training and Doctrine Command, 19th Infantry Division and Area Commander Ghatail Area Major General Syed Tarak were present on the occasion. .

Representatives from a total of 11 countries are participating in the multinational military exercise. A total of 123 Army personnel including 30 from Bangladesh, 30 from India, 30 from Sri Lanka and 33 from Bhutan are participating  in the training.

 A total of 19 observers from USA, France, Nepal, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, India, Sri Lanka and Bhutan are also participating  in the training.

The main objective of this training is to increase the capacity of the countries participating in the UN peacekeeping missions to maintain world peace. The participating countries will strive to achieve the goals of the training by creating a collaborative work environment through mutual knowledge and exchange of technical information.

The training will include discussions with experts on important issues related to military operations and various types of competitions. The training will showcase the state-of-the-art weapons and military gadgets used by the Bangladesh Army in UN peacekeeping missions. In addition, various activities of women members of the Bangladesh Army in UN peacekeeping missions will be highlighted.

The training is being conducted under the overall supervision of the Bangladesh Army. It is expected that this practice will greatly enhance the reputation of Bangladesh abroad. The military training will continue till April 12 at Bangabandhu Cantonment.
