Despite ongoing instability in the Middle East, fuel-carrying vessels continue to arrive at Chattogram Port. The latest among them, a vessel named ‘PVT Solana’, has reached the port carrying 27,300 tonnes of refined diesel from Malaysia.

The Panama-flagged vessel anchored at Chattogram Port on Tuesday morning.

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim, said that around 30 fuel-laden vessels have docked at the port over the past month. From March 3 to March 30, following the outbreak of the conflict, all these ships arrived, unloaded fuel, and departed.

He added that six more vessels are expected to arrive by April 4. Of these, three will carry LNG, two gas oil, and one LPG.

Earlier, on March 26, a vessel named ‘Gran Cuva’ arrived with 10,000 tonnes of diesel and 20,000 tonnes of jet fuel. On the same day, ‘HL Puffin’, carrying 61,997 tonnes of LNG from Australia, reached the Kutubdia coast.

The following day (March 27), another vessel named ‘New Brave’ arrived from Indonesia. Meanwhile, another tanker, ‘Celsius Galapagos’, currently en route from the United States, is expected to reach Chattogram Port on April 4.

According to relevant sources, although a major portion of the country’s LNG imports comes from Qatar, supply uncertainties have emerged due to instability in the Middle East. As several shipments from Qatar failed to arrive on schedule, initiatives have been taken to source fuel from alternative suppliers.
