Frustrated Athletes return home

Intekhabul Hamid Apu, chef de mission of Bangladesh in Paris Olympic 2024 is disappointed with the performances of the athletes (Bangladesh athletes) when all five participants frustrated with their dismal performances.        

Meanwhile, Apu, accompanied by the deputy secretary general of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) Najib Ahmed and shooter Robiul Islam returned home yesterday.  

Among the five athletes, only archer Sagor Islam qualified directly at his own credit when shooter Robiul Islam, swimmer Samiul Islam Rafi, sprinter Imranur Rahman and women swimmer Sonia Akhter could participate after having the wild card. But all the five athletes disappointed much with their dismal show when they could not even execute their previous best performances. Sagor Islam, to whom the expectation was high to do something encouraging but the archer frustrated much when in ranking round in the Men’s individual recurve events, finished on 64 out of 45. 

Swimmer Samul Islam also disappointed with dismal show when he was 69th among 79 competitors, though his improved (0.02 seconds) a slight of his previous timing after clocking 53.10 seconds in his 100 meters evens when stood sixth out of eight in his heat.

Sonia, the only Bangladesh’s women Olympian of this time disheartened more than Samiul, as the swimmer failed maintain her previous best but was 0.41 seconds slower when she took 30:52 seconds to finish her 50 metres free style event. 

Shooter Robiul Islam in his 10 metres Air Rifle event placed 43rd out of 49 competitors with scoing 624.2 when his personal best was 628. 

Sprinter Imranur Rahman, who was also went to Olympics high hope at least to better his timing but frustrated much when he ran slower than his previous best time. Imranur, semifinalist in the Islamic solidarity games in Turkey and the gold medalist in the 60 metres Asian Indoor took 10.73 seconds 0.62 seconds slower than his best.  Intekhabul Hamid Apu, 

also the secretary of the BSF before to departure Paris told the reporters, “Archer Sagor, is our the only athlete, who qualified directly in the Paris Olympic at his own credit, our expectation was high with him. We expected he would advance to next two or more rounds. But after falling behind in the ranking round, he had to compete with top archers and could not advance further and our expectation was also finished.”     “As a chef de mission I am disappointed with the performance of Bangladesh team. Our athletes failed to better their own best scores. Overall this Olympic is frustrating for us,” Apu revealed his disappointment.”  

“It’s not possible for our swimmers and athletes to win medals in the Olympic, the target was to improve scoring and timing. None but swimmer Samiul could improve a slight in his event. It is very much painful,” Apu said.
